Low pressure is centred over Scandinavia, with a cold front stretching across much of continental Europe to Portugal. High pressure is centred over the Azores. In between, tightly packed isobars lie across the UK, with a trough perpendicular to these to the northeast of Scotland, and an occluded front over East Anglia.

Some showers are expected, perhaps turning frequent in western areas and across parts of the Midlands. For most though, it should be largely dry with sunny spells, especially in the east. Fresh northwesterly winds should ease through the day.
Tonight:
It will turn generally cloudy overnight, with rain or drizzle spreading across the north of the UK. Mostly dry in the south, however, with some clearer spells.
Saturday:
A mainly cloudy and damp day across all areas with strengthening westerly winds. Rain will be heaviest and most persistent in the northwest of the UK. Drier further south.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Windy and generally cloudy with outbreaks of rain for most. Brighter conditions in the northwest on Monday spreading to all areas through Tuesday, although with some showers in the north.
