Rain, locally heavy with strong winds, will move southeastwards, probably not clearing the far southeast until the evening. Clearer and colder conditions will follow the rain, with sunshine and scattered showers, these heavy and thundery towards the northwest.
OVERVIEW: The coming weekend will produce some rather autumnal conditions but of which is in-keeping with late October. The weekend starts with an active weather system moving northwest to southeast across the UK with some locally heavy rain and showers present, equally it will also be quite windy too. As this weather system clears through temperatures will drop away quite markedly and a chilly if not rather cold day will then follow. Into Sunday and England and Wales are set fair, whilst conditions become more unsettled across Scotland and Ireland.
SATURDAY: As indicated Saturday will start wet for parts of the UK with some locally heavy rain and showers, perhaps even with some localised downpours and gusty winds as an active weather front moves down across the UK. Ahead of this feature, across SE England, then it will be a mainly dry start to Saturday with even some bright spells before the rain arrives here later. For Scotland, N England and Wales though Saturday morning will be wet and windy and again some locally large rainfall totals are possible. As the weather system clears through quite an abrupt change to brighter, if not sunnier conditions will develop across W Scotland and Ireland initially before then filtering down into N England and Wales by late morning onwards. This clearance will, however, signal a drop in temperature and the maximum temperatures on Saturday for most of England and Wales are likely to be first thing with temperatures gradually lowering as the day progresses. This drop in temperature will be accentuated by a moderate or fresh, locally strong NW’ly wind too.
SUNDAY: It will be a chilly start to the day across more rural areas with perhaps a touch of frost, but generally a continued west or north-westerly wind overnight on Saturday and into Sunday morning will prohibit frost from developing. As Sunday progresses it will typically be a north and west, south and east split in conditions across the UK. Mostly cloudy conditions with outbreaks of rain and drizzle will develop across parts of Scotland, especially W Scotland and also Ireland along with a moderate or fresh SW’ly wind too. However, conditions will be set fair across most of England and Wales as higher pressure dominates with a fine day of weather expected with some bright or sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud. It will feel a little milder on Sunday than compared with Saturday, but not so much across northern and western areas given more cloud and more of a breeze, so remaining quite chilly across Scotland and Ireland.
