Day 17 – More of the same

OVERVIEW: The coming weekends weather will maintain the rather stagnant and non-descript weather that has dominated across the UK for several days now. Most areas maintain dry weather with some bright or sunny spells, especially so across Scotland and Ireland and that trend will continue this weekend. The other trend is for thicker cloud to be maintained across a large portion of England and Wales throughout the weekend and for some further rain and showers, at times, across E Anglia and SE England but this risk diminishing through Sunday. Temperatures will continue to trend slightly below average so another rather chilly weekend is likely.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY: Both Saturday and Sunday will produce very similar weather conditions. Saturday will start dry across most areas and also chilly with some mist, fog and frost across parts of Scotland and Ireland in particular. It will be a cloudier start across England and Wales and this will have limited the risk of frost and fog from developing. As Saturday progresses and not a great deal changes. After the chilly start across more northern and western areas it will be dry with bright or sunny spells, whilst across England and Wales it will remain mostly cloudy. The cloud will continue to be thick enough across more eastern and south-eastern areas of England for some rain and showers at times and with Kent and surrounding counties perhaps seeing some substantial rain on a local scale at times.

As we move into Saturday evening and beneath clearing skies across Scotland, Ireland and perhaps NW England it will be another chilly night ahead here with a renewed risk of mist, fog and frost in places. Elsewhere though and the cloudy scenario will continue across most of England and Wales, with still some showers or rain across the extreme south-east of England on Saturday night. Through into Sunday morning and it is a case of ‘spot the difference’ with the best conditions expected the further north and west you are with some sunshine through the day after a chilly start, whilst across most of England and Wales it will remain rather cloudy with just some limited brighter intervals at times. The risk of some rain and showers across the extreme south-east of England will be maintained through Sunday, but overall by this point nothing too organised is expected at the moment.
